Australian National Vaulting Championships

CVI** International and Australian National Vaulting Championships held at SIEC 9-12 October 2008.
135 Competitors from around Australia, New Zealand, Canada & USA attended the event.
Congratulations to the National Champion and winner of the CVI** Tristyn Lowe from Canberra and to the National Team which was the South Australia Vaulting Academy.
Nine vaulters represented Sydney Vaulting Group including our first entry at this level in Team Events. Below is the Team Freestyle performed on Lord Louis, our awesome teams horse.

Krystle Lander did us proud coming 4th in the CVI** with her personal best score. Below is Krystle's freestyle performance from the final round of competiton. Krystle is performing on Sam our amazing Arabian Warmblood gelding. Also competing on behalf of SVG in the CVI* were Clare Watts, Mellissa Thompson and Jayme Lennon, who's performances we were all amazing.

One outstanding performance was from 11 year old Eliza Wark-Chapman who excelled in C grade to win the class. Eliza will now step up to B grade, making her one of the youngest competitors in Australia to be competing at this level. Below is Eliza's freestyle on Sam.

Our most adored team member was our new horse Santa, who after less than 3months training was used solely by the N.Z team in the CVI* Competition. Santa is a very talented 17.1 hh warmblood with an outstanding temperament who stepped up to this level of competition taking the unfamiliar freestyle routines in his stride.

Another crowd pleaser was the pas de deux performed by Chelsea Light and Eliza Wark-Chapman, who came second place to the outstanding performance by the two A graders, Emma Moulds and Samantha Young from SA. Chelsea and Eliza's combined age was still less than either of their competitors.

CVI* had the highest numbers of B grade competitors in event in Australia. Clare & Mellissa fared well against the strong competition.

Protocol Day 20th Sept 08

Thanks again to Robyn Bruderer for assisting with our competition preparation. It really is beneficial and we become aware of new things each time. Hopefully we can learn from these new experiences.
Vaulter Task:
Below is the video of the team compulsories. Each vaulter is to add comments on the blog - just click on "comments" tag. Please list 2 things you did really well in your compulsories, and 2 things you would like to improve. Try to make the things that you would like to improve, achieveable by the Nationals in October. (So that definately excludes things like performing triple somersaults!).
Your reward will be that I will post the next video that I have of you. i.e. your individual compulsories. After you leave comments on your individual compulsories then I will post your freestyle. Ok lets see if we can get some good feedback happening. (And it gives me a bit more time to get all the videos loaded on).

Protocol Day August 08

Protocol Day - Competition Practice.
Thanks to Robyn Bruderer for coming to our training day and giving us feedback on our performances. A few major firsts for the team...
Krystle received her first 10 ever whilst performing her stand at Canter in the team compulsories. "It just couldn't possibly get any better, so I was confident when giving the score" commented the judge, and Krystle couldn't contain her joy.
Ellora also achieved her first stand at canter in the same team round, and fortunately this was captured on video. The team couldn't contain their excitement and broke protocol to cheer Ellora on in the midst of her turn. Both were very proud moments for me as a coach.

Winter Warm Up Competition

August 16th we attended the National Equestrian Centre's Winter Warm Up Competition in Canberra. This was the first time we performed our team freestyle at canter. This was a great achievement after 4 weeks of training the freestyle at canter. Lord Louis was a star, and rarely missed a beat. The freestyle went well and scored a credible 5.2. We did have one minor hiccup when Krystle lost balance, and managed to wipe out Eliza on her way down. Eliza quickly recovered to remount with Mellissa and complete the routine. We had a great weekend and are now quickly on to planning our new routine for Nationals at SIEC in October.

SVG Team

As a part of an E-Learning Project for EFA Coaches at Tafe, I am experimenting on the benefits of utilising web tools to assist with coaching. Please feel free to contribute to this blog, and provide any feedback you think may be useful. Regards, Lyn.

The focus of this blog is for the SVG Team to record their experiences from the first day of training canter freestyles as a team. Lord Louis is our awesome horse, who is going to take our team to Nationals in October.

SURVEY

Ok we need to name our team. I have put together some options, or you can add your own. We will narrow it down, and then vote. Please click here to go to the SVG Team Survey
